Fat Beat Sound System
Fat Beat Sound System was founded in the early nineties to slow down. Starting as a hundred percent improvised quartet with two dj:s and two horns the band slowly developed into a Fat rhythm machine.
-The messengers of mental fatness
Fat Beat Sound System has evolved slowly in the same unconstrained manner as their music flows with the steady bass. The band started improvising about ten years ago when one of the founding members of Fat Beat, dj Bunuel invited some of his fellow musicians to enjoy playing music with no definitive drive or compulsion to gain success immediately. The idea of Fat Beat Sound System is to provide a vacation from the busy worldly matters both for the members of the band and for the listeners of their music.
Today Fat Beat Sound System features famous long time musicians Dj Bunuel, Hepa Halme, Jarmo Saari, Jukkis Kiviniemi, Arttu Tolonen and Abdissa Assefa a.k.a Mamba who are known from groups such as Giant Robot, Nu Spirit Helsinki and Soul Tattoo. All musicians bring their own influences into the band and most of the tunes have almost composed themselves, coming into existence by coincidence and born from the heart and soul of these skilled musicians. That is also the reason why the music of Fat Beat escapes genre definitions. It can be described as a blend of Jamaican influenced dubstyle worlbeat with heavy influences from electronic groove and echoing the sounds of nu jazz and even hip hop.
Fat Beat Sound System is like a long lasting fiesta with an excessive amount of delicacies and the table always open for guests. In early times Fat Beat Sound System even had, among other guests, a cook on stage to serve a meal to whomever who played too much. By offering food they wanted to calm down too enthusiastic musicians and get them, as well as their audiences to see the enjoyment in life when it passes on in slow motion and without the hurry of modern times.
The worldbeat masters have previously released Quality EP on Tiger Records and Fala Fala album on Exogenic Breaks Records. Late Downtown EP features a track from the upcoming Feed the Vocalist album which will be released in February 2007.
